Navigating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging with David Myles

We had the privilege of engaging in a thought-provoking conversation with our esteemed guest, David Myles, on the significant topic of Intercultural Agility and its impact on leadership especially when navigating diversity, equity, and inclusion. Born and raised as an African-American in a predominantly white community, David brought a unique perspective on race and intercultural agility, shining a spotlight on the importance of investing in relationships and moving beyond the conventional right and wrong approach.

Intercultural agility, according to David, is a non-negotiable skill in our rapidly evolving world. It is an essential tool that helps us understand ourselves and others better, fostering stronger relationships and promoting better decision-making. As David beautifully put it:

“If you are breathing and the person across from you is breathing, then understanding intercultural agility is paramount to connecting with them.”

The conversation explored the role of intercultural agility in building relationships by navigating biases and stereotypes. Understanding our own cultural preferences can lead to a better understanding of others, creating a third cultural space where culture can be co-created.

This enlightening conversation with David Myles underscores the importance of intercultural agility in our ever-evolving world. It emphasizes the need for self-awareness, understanding of cultural preferences, and the value of investing in relationships. As we navigate the complex world of cultural diversity, these insights could indeed change the way we view the world.
