Moana, however, as an outlook of innovation where she goes to the sea - something that is not part of her parents tradition. -

Elinor and Marianna differ in their way of expression. Elinor shows one that is concealing due to her respect and honor for certain people while Marianna thinks she should have revealed her expressions. -
Karate Kid - Revealing expression to submit to power.
Dre is bullied by some boys. After being beaten up several times, one of the boys tells the Cheng that he should stop. He replies with the statement “Remember what we learnt? No weakness, no pain, no mercy”. This shows that Dre has to first reveal his expression and show his shame and lack of power before he’s given mercy. -
The Joy Luck Club - Power/fear
She instils fear into the family through saying she had bad dreams in which she said that there will be destruction. The more stories she said, the more fear there was in the family so she was able to get her way.

Karate Kid - Using Power to instil Fear
Master Li threatens Dre and Mr. Han after they come into his studio and refuse to fight. This is an example how Master Li is using his power over others to instil fear. One is also able to observe how his students use the same way to bully Dre. -
Hunger Games - Being culturally aware to status
Katniss tells Peeta to show what he’s capable of. She says this to make sure the competition knows that he is not all the way at the bottom – that he has no power or status, and that they should fear him. -
Hunger Games - Power controlling through prescribing status
Each competitor is given a number to rate how ‘good’ they are. This number is what gives them their worth and status because it’s the game makers who control their place in the games. When Katniss gets an 11 and Peta gets an 8, they both know indirectly who is valued more. -
Karate Kid - Cultural shock in Musical Performance
Dre experiences a short cultural difference when he starts clapping after Meiying finishes her violin piece. The difference is that no one claps and Dre’s clapping awkwardly fades away. -
Coach Carter - Accountability is held as a team
The boys aren’t going to their classes and Carter reminds the boys that they signed a contract. Carter says that he will be getting their reports. When they don’t show up for class they will not play. One of the players walks out frustrated. “Think about the choice your making if you walk out the door” coach Carter tells him. Again he has reminded them about what they committed to. -
Slumdog Millionaire - Example of perspective
This group of people are all trying to remember what they know vaguely about Edinburgh to write up a magazine article. They all have perceptions of it from living in India and never visiting. -
The Hunger Games - Achieving status through boldness
Katniss must show off her skills to get sponsors. When she fails, her status is lessened immediately because it achieved. So, to get it back, Katniss makes a bold move to get their attention back. -
The Illegal - Decision making in the community
Hassan is recommended by his uncle to reconsider his decision about university. He brings up taking care for the family because they have a culture that is all about community and relationship. Hassan’s decisions have a major impact in his family and community which shows the concern his uncle had for him.
